NicoNico Art Class
NicoNico Art Class is a place for imagination and creativity.
In our class, each child decides what to create. Everyone works on their own ideas, exploring what they truly want to make. This is not always easy—thinking of ideas and making choices can be challenging. But through trying, experimenting, and even making mistakes, children experience the joy of creating something that is truly their own. Those moments of discovery become unforgettable.
Creating art is also a form of dialogue—both with oneself and with others.
Children first ask themselves, “What do I like?” and give shape to their thoughts. When others see their work, they may feel different things. There is no single “correct” answer. Through these different perspectives, children reflect again and continue to grow.
NicoNico Art Class began in New York as a class combining Japanese language and art. It continued for four years in California, and this is now our 10th year in Winchester. Our students range from age 5 to 18, and we also offer classes for adults.
We hope you enjoy the artwork created by our students.
Through their creations, you may see how each child is thinking, imagining, and expressing themselves—sometimes quietly, sometimes boldly, but always sincerely.
ニコニコアートクラス
ニコニコアートクラスは、想像と創造を大切にするアートクラスです。
何を作るかは自分で決めます。それぞれが自分のやりたいことを考え、自由に制作しています。何をしたいかを決めることは、実は簡単ではありません。それでも、面白そうなアイディアを見つけて挑戦し、時には失敗しながらも、うまくいった時の喜びや創造の体験は、忘れられないものになっていきます。
作品を作ることは、自分との対話であり、他人との対話でもあります。自分が「いい」と思うものは何かを考え、それを形にし、見る人によってさまざまな感じ方が生まれます。正解は一つではありません。そうした違いを通して、また自分自身を見つめ直していきます。
ニコニコアートクラスは、ニューヨークで芸術家の喜多麗子が日本語とアートをアメリカで紹介するクラスとして2005年に始まりました。その後子供のアートクラスとしてカリフォルニアで4年間、そしてウィンチェスターでは今年で10年目になります。5歳から18歳までの子どもたち、そして大人のクラスもあります。
